See and understand the African South Africa
Day 1: Friday
Province Gauteng and Johannesburg, the “City of Gold
Upon arrival in O.R. Tambo Johannesburg Airport, you will be greeted by your personal guide Ms.Thuli Khumalo. Our guide will travel you by car during the full tour. Then head straight for a ride to the famous Melville / Rosebank art district in Johannesburg. There you will also find your hotel, where you will spend the next two nights (our recommendation). First, move into your room and have some time to freshen up / rest /downtime.
In the early afternoon your tour-program begins with a visit to the city of Johannesburg, which was founded in October 1886 as a small gold digger settlement and tent city and is still called “place of gold”. The tour takes you first to a stadium where you can admire the breathtaking skyline from above. You will learn from your guide how Johannesburg came into existence and has developed into the country’s economic metropolis over time.
In between, we stop at a local, where you take a small snack.
When visiting the city center, you can look at the most important historic buildings. Then we drive to Gold Reef City, where the Apartheid Museum stands.
Here’s an idea of what the situation at the time during racial segregation looked like.
At well-known restaurant, you’ll begin the evening, which ends with a visit to a musical, visit a theatre production or a jazz club.
Overnight at Pablo Guesthouse https://pablohouse.co.za in Melville. (our recommendation)
Day 2: Saturday
City tour Soweto
The tour starts after breakfast. More than four million people live in the suburb of Soweto, Africa. The visit will allow you to get an idea of the reality of this country. On the way through Soweto, you pass Baragwanath Hospital, the largest hospital in Africa. They visit a kindergarten and the Catholic Church Regina Mundi, which was declared a National Monument a few years ago because of their commitment to apartheid (racial segregation). You will see the monument and the museum in honor of Hector Pieterson, one of the first children killed during the political turmoil of 1976.
It continues with the Mandela Family House Museum: Here Nelson Mandela lived before his arrest with his family.
The last stop in Soweto is one of the many Shebeens, formerly illegal pubs or restaurants. They were created during apartheid. Since Africans were not allowed to buy or sell alcohol, they did so in the so-called Sheebens, which were also a haven for political discussions. After the visit, we will have lunch at a Restaurant and then drive back to your hotel, which we will reach in the late afternoon.

The Sterkfontein Caves are a series of karst caves located near the town of Krugersdorp, northwest of Johannesburg. The caves are of particular interest for paleoanthropological research, as a number of fossils from early hominins (members of the human lineage) were found here.
Originally a market hall, the Market Theatre today comprises the Museum Africa, Kippies Jazz Club and the Market Theatre complex, which is home to three theatres, two galleries and a variety of bars and restaurants.
